Winterhalter revealed that it is providing a special washing machine to handle thousands of reusable cups at the COP26 in Glasgow.

The company stated that it was selected to provide the CTR series of compact rack conveyors and chemicals for cleaning cups used by delegates during SEC meetings.

As we all know, reusable plastic cups are difficult to clean in accordance with the required safety standards, and allowing them to dry quickly also brings challenges.

Since the daily throughput is expected to be 26,000 cups, it is essential that the system provides dry products at the end of the wash.

The Winterhalter system was specifically developed for processing reusable plastic cups and is compatible with any of the company's UC undercounter, PT pass-through, and CTR conveyor type dishwashers and glass washing machines.

It cleans plastic cups in less than two minutes and involves three main elements: a special shelf, a new cleaning procedure, and special plastic chemicals.

The rack has a locking bracket to hold the lightweight cups in place and prevent the water jet from turning them over.

Winterhalter also created a software update that includes a reusable plastic cup cleaning program with parameters set to achieve the best results.

These chemicals play a key role in achieving the relevant sanitary DIN standards.

These chemicals are formulated to assist this process. Winterhalter has conducted extensive tests on cups, chemicals and machines to ensure that the system achieves the fast drying effect required by the conference center.

The COP26 model includes a dryer, heat recovery, water treatment, and professional reusable cup holders and chemicals, which can process 3,000 cups per hour.

The project faced a major access challenge because the machine had to be located on the first floor and accessible via the passenger elevator.

Therefore, CTR is manufactured in sections and built on site.

"It's hard to tell how much effort our team put into establishing this system for the Glasgow SEC Center," said Paul Crowley, Marketing Development Manager in Winterhalter, UK.

"We are honored to be selected to participate in such a high-profile project and proud of the team's achievements!"
