Doug DeMuro called it the strangest Subaru ever.

The world of Japanese cars is an incredible world, and this country is responsible for producing some of the greatest cars on the planet. When we think of Japanese cars, we think of classic models such as Mazda RX-7 and Honda NSX, as well as old and new models such as Nissan GT-R Skylines. However, for whatever reason, many Japanese cars have received attention, and even some of the world's largest auto reporters often ignore them.

Subaru's car may be one of them, and that is the Subaru SVX. The SVX is probably one of Subaru's most unusual cars and is also marketed as the Alcyone SVX. Doug DeMuro called it the strangest Subaru ever. It must be a strange looking car with some strange features. But under all this, it is actually a pretty good car, and for whatever reason, it seems to be ignored by most people. It may not be the most underrated car from Japan, but it is certainly one of the most underrated cars in the entire country.

For the first time, the world knew that the Subaru SVX was unveiled as a concept car at the 1989 Tokyo Motor Show. The styling was completed by the famous Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro of ItalDesign. This car has undoubtedly attracted everyone's attention and is one of the most eye-catching Subaru in the company's history. SVX is equipped with a 3.3-liter EG33 H6 engine and a 4-speed 4EAT automatic transmission. It is positioned as a high-end model and is aimed at the American cruiser coupe market.

This is certainly an ambitious goal, but Subaru is pretty sure it can do it. The lines of the SVX are very soft and sleek, thanks in part to its two-piece electric side windows, which are separated by about two-thirds from the bottom. When it debuts, the SVX will be equipped with an EG33 engine throughout its production life. This will be the largest engine Subaru has produced for its production car until the 3.6-liter EZ36 engine launched for Tribeca in 2008. Oh, SVX is also an impressive four-wheel drive.

SVX was not without its problems in the early days. Its early career was slightly hampered by overheating of the gearbox, warping of the brake discs and premature failure of the wheel bearings, which was caused by the temporary grease filled into the bearings by Subaru. This is a misconception that the dealer will replace it with something more durable during the pre-delivery inspection. The dealers didn't intentionally fail to do this, they just forgot that it was something they had to do. So to be fair, it is not their fault for Subaru.

Despite these problems, the SVX is essentially an excellent car. The 231-horsepower six-cylinder engine provided plenty of grunt for the company's flagship car, and although it was a bit short, the automatic transmission was smooth enough. Styling is also important, and is often described as a glass-on-glass canopy inspired by airplanes. What's more impressive is how close the SVX is to the earlier Alcyone XT concept, considering the extent to which manufacturers tend to deviate from the concept. You will never feel uncomfortable in SVX, it provides a relaxing and pleasant driving experience. It fully meets your expectations.

Unfortunately, SVX was beaten by products like NSX and RX-7, which means it has been underestimated for many years. The window-in-window function on the side window of the car is undoubtedly brave and brilliant. It helps to reduce wind noise, ensure good external visibility, and you can open a small window so that you won’t get wet even if it rains. But this idea did not catch on. On the highway is where the SVX excels, it is happy to cruise at 80 mph, something impressive, and driving so smoothly. This is a great cruiser, which is rare now.

SVC is certainly not a perfect car, but it deserves more appreciation. Its slow sales figures mean it will never surpass its American rivals, but its all-wheel drive system and six-cylinder engine ensure that it is an excellent cruiser, offers good grip, and it is a very comfortable one Car. There is a lot of plastic inside, but Alcántara seats make up for this, and the interior is certainly not tacky. If available, the round instruments on the dashboard provide some interior style. SVX is not the car that will shape the future as Subaru hopes. But it is commendable for being brave, bold and awesome.
