Cardinal Glass Industries has expanded its facility in Tomah, Wash., and added new technology to meet increasing demand.

New LiSEC equipment includes raw glass storage, cutting and sorting equipment to prevent handling glass along with a Glaston furnace for shake-and-bake glass tempering.

Cardinal Glass, a provider of coated, laminated, tempered, plain and insulating glass products, opened the new facility on Monday following 18 months of construction.

The Tomah IG expansion was necessary following growth plans that exceeded the company’s current capacity, says Aaron Arntson, superintendent of Tomah IG.

“We have a great core of employees in Tomah with 10-20 years of experience and there was another Cardinal facility, Cardinal TG, across the parking lot from our original IG facility,” says Arntson. “We started construction to expand the facility for our production requirements in partnership with ACS Inc. out of Verona, Wis. We broke ground in January 2021 and the facility was handed over to us in early September.”

Arntson says that the new facility features a virtually touchless insulating glass process that helps increase safety and produces high-quality products. New LiSEC equipment includes raw glass storage, cutting and sorting equipment to prevent handling glass along with a Glaston furnace for shake-and-bake glass tempering.

Arntson adds that the glass is sorted by LiSEC shuttles into large buffers according to what the IG line calls for and feeds glass to the line. The facility also has its own jumbo insulating glass line to produce finished IG units.

“We are looking forward to higher production with lower reject rates to fulfill the needs of our customers now and into the future,” says Arntson.
