I have observed that when we break the glass in the center with great force, the fragments near the impact point are sometimes large and long fragments that exceed the standard of 40 fragments. However, the size of the fragments away from the impact center is smaller. Is this normal or does it mean that the glass is not tempered properly? Does the size of the debris vary depending on the impact strength?
If this means that our glass is not tempered properly, what can we do to correct this problem?
As we all know, glass breakage depends on where you break the glass. If you break the glass in the middle, you will get very long pieces, but if you break it at the edges, the pieces will usually be smaller. That's because you have different boundary conditions, depending on whether you break the glass at the center or at the edges.
If you want to get smaller pieces even if you break the glass in the center, you can increase the stress level by tempering the glass at a higher temperature and higher cooling power. Then, the size of the fragments will become smaller.
