Thought that origami can only be made with paper? Think again. An enterprising company is building a house.

Latvian start-up Brette Haus has produced stunning foldable mini houses that are moved by truck to a (flat) location of choice-and then unfolded in just three hours by two people.

They come in three designs—compact, rustic, and urban—ranging in area from 18 to 108 square meters (193 to 1,162 square feet), and costing from 18,000 euros (16,000 pounds) to approximately 50,000 euros (44,500 pounds). One of them comes with a top end specification

They all have double-glazed windows, kitchen, living room, bathroom and bedroom, and have basic facilities-toilets, sinks, showers, plumbing and electrical systems. Although they can all be connected to sewers and power networks, Brette Haus pointed out that local experts may be required to assemble them.

Bretthouse said that on the bright side, most countries do not require building permits or a lot of paperwork to insert buildings.

Additional facilities installed at the factory include IKEA kitchen appliances, dishwashers or washing machines, solar kits, infrared heating, water heaters, "smart home" systems and custom exterior wall finishes.

Brette Haus suggests that recyclable structures made of cross-laminated timber (CLT) can be used as affordable houses, cafes, home offices, garden houses, guard rooms, luxury tents, or rooftop hotel suites.

Compact models can even be combined to form a foldable small city.

Brette Haus said: "Our foldable compact houses can easily adapt to the scale of your business. Connect one unit to another and you will get a larger structure. This option allows the creation of large houses similar to townhouses Or retail chains, but with very important benefits-they are mobile and can be moved freely or compactly stored when not needed.

"Tropical or winter resorts, eco-villages, summer camps, rural shopping areas, food markets, or any other communities.

"Foldable houses can not only appear as separate projects, they can also form new social structures."

According to Brette Haus, it only takes one week to ship products to the European continent. However, because these devices fit in a container, they can be shipped all over the world.

Each one takes about eight weeks to manufacture. The company displayed its first house in a national park on the coast of the Baltic Sea in December 2019.
