Here's how shoppers can slash hundreds off their energy bills with this budget product
As the cost of keeping the heating on at night becomes unaffordable for many households, there's one product from Currys that will help keep shoppers warm all night, without spending a fortune. It costs just 5p to run and aims to slash electricity bills this winter.
The £19 Status Electric Underblanket cost pennies to run all night and is a warm solution for the many households that have chosen to switch their heating off at night. This month the rise in the energy price cap means the average household will be charged up to £2,500 for standard use of energy, making the cold winter nights simply unaffordable for many.
This electric blanket will make the difference for many shoppers thanks to its cost effectiveness. Taking a few minutes to warm up its pre-heat function cost just 5p to keep on for an hour (150 Watts), which is enough to keep the bed warm all night.

Priced at £19, the electric under blanket features three heat settings to suit body temperature and has an overheat safety protection tool to ensure users don't get too warm during sleep. You can get it on the Currys website here.
The blanket is just one of many energy-saving products available with the retailer who have also introduced a new tool to help shoppers during the cost of living crisis. Available to use on goods like washing machines, dishwashers and fridge freezers, the new calculator details how much a product costs to run at home, and it could save shoppers around £2,000 when used to buy a combination of household goods.
Even if the product is slightly more expensive at checkout it could save be cheaper to run for instance, one brand of fridge may be £20 more to buy but costs £170 less to run, leaving the customer £150 in-pocket in the long-run.
The tool automatically shows on the website underneath a product listing but there are a few key things to add. Households should add their estimated usage of the appliance, electricity tariff and ownership in years to get an exact cost. From here the most cost effective and energy efficient models will show for a customers specific home and tariff.
We put the tool to the test to see which household appliances at Curry's are the most efficient to run, using a tariff average of 34p per KWH (the estimate for a family of four).
Looking at fridges, washing machines and dishwashers, the maximum amount of money households can save is £2,443. This is the total saving in electricity bills if a household were to buy all three of the following cost-effective items; the Samsung Bespoke fridge freezer at £1, 299 it would save £1,524 of energy. Next is the MIELE AutoDos G dishwasher (£1,249) would save £443 in energy costs and the Beko Pro Aqua Tech washing machine (£409 to buy) saves 476 over time.
Ovens are one of the most expensive appliances to use in the kitchen, at a cost of 59p per hour (based off the average 2.1kWh of average oven) so the price of cooking three meals a day for the family can quickly add up. Some of the best ovens for energy saving are; the Hotpoint electric and the Indesit electric steam oven.
