Test: Nosy Disco-Antistat Ultrasonic Record Washing Machine With Ultrasound

For more than 40 years, the nosy disco-antistat has been synonymous with vinyl and record collectors for solid and affordable record cleaning equipment. with Disco-Antistat Ultrasonic ,I here is the news report) Burgheimer von Knosti is now expanding their traditional record washing machine repertoire with a modern update.

While it was common to turn the vinyl via a “washing system” by hand with previous nosy appliances, it is now done by a motor. But that is not the only difference. With a manual disco-antistat record washing machine, two goat hair brushes and a cleaning liquid vinyl takes care of the washing job.

Disco-Antistat Ultrasonic now has an additional ultrasonic generator. Its purpose is to provide additional cleanliness by generating cavitation bubbles. As promised by the manufacturer, they remove dirt even in places that normal cleaning procedures cannot reach. In this way the loose dirt is removed with a goat hair brush. Some of our readers are probably familiar with the principle of ultrasonic cleaning from the optician, which also accompanies the cleaning of glasses.

Nosti Disco Antistat Ultrasonic has a very stable plastic. This is definitely the most practical material for a washing machine that has to deal with liquids and dirt. Plastic is easy to clean and generally very easy to care for. However, the flap on the back doesn’t make the most stabilizing effect.

It should be opened after each washing session so that the washing liquid can finally be taken out of the machine. The flap is held in place by a plastic clamp, which we hope will last as long as possible. With a machine of 1,249 euros (note: made in Germany, mind you), we sincerely wish for a high quality solution. But it serves its purpose and everything has been good in our tests so far. And don’t forget: This machine is for washing vinyl and not for decoration on a hi-fi shelf. So let’s look at the function.

The first step is to mix the cleaning liquid. All we have to do is mix the supplied distilled water and Disco-Antistat Ultraclean Concentrate. The latter is enough for 5 liters of cleaning fluid. Vinyl lovers should go for a while. Then we push the goat hair brush into the holders in the machine.

We fill the cleaning liquid into the tub. But not up to the mark, please: The plate is displacing the liquid, causing it to rise. So first spread the record to the spindle – also known as the label cover – and hang it in the nosti. Once the plate is in, we can fill it up to the maximum mark. Then we switch on the disco-antistat ultrasonic and it starts.

A wash process typically takes 60 seconds, at least as recommended by the manufacturer as the minimum. But if the flea market records are very dirty we can also set a longer wash time and wash up to 5 minutes. As the record plays, we hear the ultrasonic generator humming softly. Compared to other record washing machines with a suction mechanism, it is noticeably quieter and more pleasant to use.

After running, we remove the record, open the label cover and place the record in the drying stand provided for drying. Here the LP drips and dries and we can clean up more records. It takes about 15 minutes to dry.

Another tip for fastening the record to the label cover: Please only twist it slightly so that the “jaw” rests gently on the label. This is important because the label cover will continue to be tightened while the machine is running. We initially pulled the cover on quite tightly when testing it and then had a really hard time releasing it again after the wash process.

We are very impressed with the result of our washing campaign with Nosty Disco-Antistat Ultrasonic. We have grease stains, dirt, and sticky soda or beer residue in a really dirty flea market machine wash. It’s really great and definitely better than purely manual machines.

Even if the LP or single doesn’t look dirty, it’s still worth cleaning up. Then your voice will become louder. For example with an old Madonna LP “Like a Virgin”, which was actually a bit dusty. But after cleaning from the nosy, it looked fresh-squeezed and a lot more elaborate than before.

Speaking of fresh presses: Even with new records, they should always be washed before using them on a record player. You’d be surprised how much production residue can be partially cleaned from fresh vinyl here.

With Nosty Disco-Antistat Ultrasonic we clean records very quickly and effectively. Even clean-looking LPs look much better and more detailed after cleaning. Unfortunately, the price of 1,250 euros is a bit high for our taste. However, if you want to quickly and easily clean multiple records “up to the holes”, you should definitely try the Disco-Antistat Ultrasonic. Text: Thomas Kirsch, Benjamin McClure
