FALLS CHURCH, VA — Despite cancellations of some local events due to weather impacts, the Falls Church Recycling Extravaganza is still scheduled for Saturday.

The event allows City of Falls Church residents to recycle items they normally cannot bring to the Recycling Center at 7100 Gordon Road. Residents may visit between 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and must bring proof of residency in the City of Falls Church. During the event, residents will be asked to remain in their vehicles and let staff remove items.

Items not accepted at the event include large kitchen appliances such as refrigerators, laundry machines, or air conditioners; broken small kitchen appliances; metal kitchen items like pots and pans; and medical items like drugs, medicine and syringes.

Normally, City of Falls Church residents can drop off clothing, textiles, glass containers, scrap metal, mixed containers, mixed paper and cardboard at the city's Recycling Center. Hazardous household waste normally can be taken to Fairfax County's I-66 Transfer Station, at 4618 West Ox Road, Fairfax VA.

Many kinds of electronics may be dropped off for free at eAsset Solutions at 427 N. Maple Ave, if you're a city resident.

For paper shredding, events hosted by Fairfax County are open to city residents. Bikes may be donated to Bikes for the World with a suggested donation.

To donate canes, crutches, wheelchairs, walkers, and strollers, contact the Virginia Medical Brigade.

According to the city, Recycling Extravaganza events have diverted over 100,000 pounds of items from landfills and served hundreds of residents.
