Big Frog Custom T-Shirts, a chain of custom apparel shops, has launched new franchise incentives for veterans and first responders.

In Sioux Falls, the store is locally owned by Ethan Corbin and his father, Ryan. Ethan served in the U.S. Air Force for six years and was deployed in 2012 to Oman, according to a news release.  Eco Solvent Printer

He initially started printing T-Shirts in his basement for friends and family members. Ethan and Ryan created a screen printing machine with wood, he said.

"Business just kind of started picking up a little bit more and more out of the basement, and we found Big Frog," Ryan said. "It's a franchise because all the legal stuff when it comes to opening a business is just so much so we found a franchise that had all the branding, the colors."

At Big Frog Custom T-Shirts, customers can design their own shirts, or have a graphic designer collaborate with them on the project, using direct-to-garment printing. That uses specialized ink to print directly onto the garment as opposed to heat transfer or dye sublimation.

Along with T-Shirts, the business offers bags and accessories, bottoms, dress shirts, fleece, polos, knits and layering, jackets, sweatshirts, koozies and more. The chain has nearly 100 franchise locations, including a shop in Canada.

The incentive program includes a 20% discount on initial investment and waived annual royalty fees for the first year. Those incentives could add up to $15,000, according to a news release. Veteran owners account for more than 4% across the Big Frog Custom T-Shirt footprint.

“We have always been committed to the success of our franchise store owners. In fact, during the pandemic, we eliminated royalty payments for 14 months — the equivalent of an $800,000 abatement for our franchisees, and invested more than 2,200 hours in business coaching. Our average store sales were up 19% over 2019 numbers, so we know some of these incentives for veterans can translate into similar success,” Big Frog Franchise Group President & CEO Tina Bacon-DeFrece said in a release.

In Sioux Falls, Big Frog works with nonprofits across the area, including Calm Waters, which is a nonprofit that's aimed to end veteran homelessness and reduce veteran suicide.
